WHEA ads new classes to the season 2025-26 in strongman/woman competitions. Junior (A) for women and men between the age of 18 and 20yrs.
There is no weight classes inside of the age classes and the events weights will be lighter than in the masters classes. Athlete can compete in Junior (A) from the day they turn 18yrs to the day they turn 20yrs.
If the amount of junior athletes is raising during the seasons 2025-26, the new classes will stay in the WHEA selection.
Athletes under 18yrs can not compete in WHEA strongman/woman competitions, but WHEA has Junior (B) class in grip events for athletes in the age range of 15-18yrs.
“The strongman/woman competitions have become more and more popular along with all sorts of strength sports in social media and it unfortunately also offers rolemodels to unhealthy ways to grow muscles and power.
By offerign the junior class with lighter event weights we encourage young athletes to develop their strength purposefully, but calmly with versatile training, without rushing to the higher competition weights of the adult series and that way we partly avoid the risk of adding the strength with forbitten methods.
We will also offer workshops, anti-doping education etc to the junior athletes with the focus on the right techniques in the events says WHEA Chairman Jyrki Rantanen.”
